NAACP President’s Award Goes to Jimmie Hill
Posted by St. Mary’s County Branch, NAACP Community BuilderIt took Wayne M. Scriber, president of the St. Mary’s County Branch of the NAACP, a long time to list all of the accomplishment of Jimmie L. Hill, treasurer of the local branch. But it wasn’t long into the list before the approximately 200 attendees of the Annual Freedom Fund Banquet knew who Mr. Scriber was honoring with this year’s President Award.
“His dedication, work ethic and self sacrifice are the model … that we try to emulate,” Mr. Scriber said.
Everyone knew, that is, except for Mr. Hill. He was in the hallway still overseeing banquet details when his name was called, personifying what Mr. Scriber described as “a quiet unassuming demeanor that make him the go-to person for counsel and advice.”
Unsurprisingly, Mr. Hill accepted the award with his trademark smile, but without comment.
