Middle School Coding Academy Set
The St. Mary’s County Library in partnership with The Patuxent Partnership is holding coding workshops for the summer. The workshops are for three age groups — elementary, middle, and high schoolers, and the workshops have been meeting at different days and times during the summer.
Each class is limited to nine students.
Middle School Coders will meet at the Lexington Park Library from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 1, Wednesday, Aug. 3, Monday, Aug. 8 and Tuesday, Aug. 9. Students should plan to attend all four classes. These students will use Scratch programming language to write their own programs and then they will test their skills by programming a robot. This group is for sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-graders. Registration is required. Go to www.stmalib.org/teens.
Elementary Coders met at the Lexington Park Library on Tuesdays from 3 to 4 pm, June 28 through July 12. The class used the snap-together programming language Scratch. Students learned to write their own beginner programs, then they got to test-drive a robot. The class was for first- to fifth-graders.
High School Coders met at the Lexington Park Library every Tuesday from 2 to 4 pm, July 7 through 28. Students learned the basics of the Python programming language, then wrote and tesedt their own programs to control a robot. The program was for ninth- through 12th-graders.
