For the sixth consecutive year, the Delmarva Foundation awarded MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital the 2013 Excellence Award for Quality Improvement. This is the seventh year overall that the hospital achieved the foundation’s highest recognition.

“This award represents exceptional teamwork and an unwavering commitment to Patient First by all of our hospital associates and physicians,” said Christine Wray, FACHE, hospital president and senior vice president of MedStar Health.

The Delmarva Foundation recognizes hospitals that achieve excellence in patient safety and quality improvement in four inpatient clinical areas, including acute myocardial infarction (heart attack), heart failure, pneumonia, and surgical care improvement.

“Every patient at MedStar St. Mary’s is someone’s son, daughter, father, mother or friend,” said Joan Gelrud, hospital vice president. “We owe patients a safe, successful experience. Agencies such as the Delmarva Foundation continually evaluate us against rigorous criteria so when we meet or exceed these standards, it tells patients they can have confidence in the care we provide.”
