David Brinkley, Maryland Secretary for the Department of Budget and Management, will present an overview of the $16.4 billion MD budget for fiscal year 2016. His briefing is scheduled for Sept. 29, noon to 1:30 pm at the Bay District Volunteer Fire Department Social Hall, Lexington Park, MD.

The Patuxent Partnership, in collaboration with the St. Mary’s Chamber of Commerce and the Southern Maryland Navy Alliance, will host the “Brown Bag” briefing on the MD budget, which will cover significant topics for the local community.

Secretary Brinkley will present Governor Larry Hogan’s agenda and budget, highlighting significant impacts to the Southern Maryland community. Following his remarks, the audience is encouraged to ask questions.

The fiscal year ’16 state budget includes $20 million for the Maryland Economic Development Assistance Authority and Fund to expand existing businesses and attract new business to priority funding areas in Maryland. Lexington Park, Prince Frederick and Waldorf are listed among the state’s priority areas.

To further the goal of advancing technology in Maryland, $9 million is included in the budget for research and development tax credits, and $4.9 million is set aside to commercialize research conducted at participating universities through the Maryland Innovation Initiative.

Representing Frederick and Carroll counties, Secretary Brinkley served in the Maryland Senate for 12 years, served as Minority Leader, and served in the House of Delegates for eight years before Governor Hogan appointed him  budget secretary.
