Maryland Attorney General Douglas Gansler

Doug Gansler, candidate for the Democratic nomination for Governor of  Maryland, is urging Marylanders to vote in the upcoming primary election. There is still time to register to vote in the primary if you have not done so already.

“Jolene and I humbly ask for your vote in the Maryland primary. Voting is already available to absentee voters and registration to vote in the primary is open until June 3,” Mr. Gansler said on behalf of himself and his running mate, candidate for Lt. Gov. Jolene Ivey.

Voters will hone Maryland’s packed roster of candidates for state and local executive and legislative offices by the end of voting in the June 24, 2014 primary.

There are only a few days left, until June 3, to register in time to vote in Maryland’s primary. Maryland has closed primaries which means eligible primary voters must be affiliated with a political party to receive a ballot. Voters receive only the ballot with candidates of their party to select from.

To vote absentee, an absentee ballot application must be received by the election office at least seven days prior to the election. For the upcoming 2014 primary that date is June 17, 2014. A returned absentee ballot must then be postmarked on or before election day, June 24, 2014 if submitted by mail. Ballots can also be returned in person until 8 pm on election day, June 24, 2014.

Military and overseas voting:  full details are at the Federal Voting Assistance Program website.

Early voting throughout Maryland opens June 12 and runs through June 19. To learn where the early voting locations are in your district visit the Maryland State Board of Elections to see a county-by-county list of early voting locations.

Many voters in Southern Maryland will find their 2014 polling sites are different than those of the 2012 general election. To find your voting precinct in Southern Maryland visit your county’s precinct maps: St. Mary’s County, Calvert County, Charles County. From there you will be able to navigate to lists of the array of offices appearing on each of the 2014 primary ballots (Democrat and Republican) and locate your polling site.

Maryland mostly has closed primaries which means only voters affiliated with a party can vote in the primary election. This is the case in the June 24, 2014 Maryland Primary.

The General Election will be Nov. 4, 2014. Early Voting for the General Election  will begin Thurs. Oct. 23, and continue through Thurs. Oct. 30 from 10 am until 8 pm across Maryland. All registered voters are eligible to vote in the Maryland General Election.
