Last weekend, Congressman Steny Hoyer held his annual family picnic in Southern Maryland on the St. Mary’s County shoreline of the Chesapeake Bay. Pretty much everyone made it, except the congressman.

As the picnic basked in a sunny fall day, Congress remained in session and Rep. Hoyer remained in D.C., arguing along with his party against the bills winning majority in the House. The House bills could not win Senate approval and consequently, government shut down the next day and hasn’t reopened.

Meanwhile, at the picnic, John Bohanan, Mr. Hoyer’s senior adviser and Lexington Park’s delegate to the Maryland House of Delegates, stepped in to introduce this year’s guest, Lt. Governor Anthony Brown who took the opportunity to enlist supporters for his campaign for governor.
