Congressman Steny Hoyer continues his meetings with business leaders and companies in Maryland to hone his Make It In America initiatives to fit the needs of companies across the national. During the summer he has visited companies throughout Maryland District 5, representing all types and sizes of businesses.

“Over the past five years, I have advocated for a jobs plan in Congress called “Make It In America” to strengthen our economy and create jobs here at home. However, the economy has changed significantly since 2010, which is why I’m hearing from economic experts, business and labor leaders, and local businesses on the challenges and opportunities they face today, and how the Make It In America plan should be updated to reflect today’s environment,” Rep. Hoyer said.

In Lexington Park, MD, last month, he continued his meetings with government contractors, taking the opportunity to learn how Make It In America legislation can help turn military projects into commercial successes a well. During a morning spent in the manufacturing facility of J.F. Taylor, headquartered in Lexington Park, MD, successes and obstacles were discussed.

In this video, Rep. Hoyer speaks with Wayne Taylor, president of J. F. Taylor in Lexington Park, MD, and discusses some of his goals. Mr. Taylor introduces the 30-year old J.F. Taylor, founded by his father three decades ago. The firm is still family-owned and employs 300 people today.

Mr. Taylor describes the $100 million company as a “big, small company” and provides a quick overview of the company’s success and growth during those decades. Following the visit, Rep. Hoyer noted the “important work they are doing in St. Mary’s County providing a range of quality products and services to their customers, including the U.S. Department of Defense.”

Since 2010, sixteen Make It In America bills have been signed into law. For a full list of Make It In America enacted laws, click here.
