Hoyer Says Balance Is Required to Avoid Fiscal Cliff

Congressman Steny H. Hoyer discussed the need to reach a balanced agreement to prevent the fiscal cliff on “WUSA 9News Now” this weekend.

“The issue is not giving up salary,” Rep. Hoyer said. “The issue is giving up positions that are strongly held and agreeing to compromise on a solution. We need to reach a compromise, we need to reach an agreement so that we can stabilize the finances of this country and give confidence to our economy.

“We have already cut $1 trillion in spending… we perhaps need to cut more and I think there’s more to be looked at, but we haven’t done anything on the revenue side of the balance.

“You haven’t heard the federal employees yelling and screaming. They understood – they want to contribute to helping us solve this problem but they don’t want to be the only ones so it’s time to look elsewhere.”
