U.S. House Reps Seek Protection for DoD Budget

US CapitolReps. Bill Young, R-Fla., and Pete Visclosky, D-Ind., have asked the Defense Department to rethink its plan to cut staff by 20 percent at top headquarters offices, saying contractors should be included in calculations, GovExec reports.

Rep. Jim Moran, D-Va., says a full 2014 defense appropriations likely will be the vehicle on which a government-wide spending measure will move through Congress next year. As soon as next week the House could approve a temporary government-wide continuing resolution that, if also adopted by the Senate, would keep the Pentagon and other federal agencies open through Dec. 15, Defense News reports.

Rep. Rob Wittman, R-Va., said in an interview taped for C-SPAN’s Newsmakers program that he will be part of an effort that would exempt the Defense Department from sequestration beginning with the 2014 budget, Navy Times says.

“We have faced unprecedented fiscal uncertainty this year and it looks like that may continue in the coming year,” says Pax River XO CAPT Heidi Fleming, reports The Enterprise.

CONTRACT: Aviation Systems Engineering Co., Lexington Park, Md., is being awarded an $8,895,204 modification (P00008) to previously awarded contract (N00189-11-D-Z040) to exercise option two of this contract to extend the term of the contract for technical, analytical, administrative and material support services to Air Test and Evaluation Squadron One (VX1), in support of the test mission of commander, operational test and evaluation force. The contractor will be required to provide support services to test and analyze Navy aircraft. With the exercise of this option, the total contract value will be $23,138,286. Work will be performed at Patuxent River, and is expected to be completed by Oct. 5, 2014. This contract was competitively procured via Navy Electronic Commerce Online website, with two offers received in response to this solicitation. The NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center, Norfolk, Contracting Department, Philadelphia, Pa., is the contracting activity.
