Fleet Readiness Briefing Set for Feb. 2

fleet readiness

RADM Paul Sohl, Commander, Fleet Readiness Centers

The Patuxent Partnership brings top military leaders in fleet readiness to the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center to brief the Pax River community on “Key Enablers to Fleet Readiness.” Fleet Readiness Centers (FRC) strive to deliver affordable aviation maintenance repair and overhaul products and services to the Navy, Marine Corps and joint forces.

The briefing begins at 8 am, Feb. 2, 2016, and is open to the public, but registration is required to assure seating. That information is below.

Scheduled presenters include: RADM Paul Sohl, Commander, Fleet Readiness Centers; Dennis West, Deputy Commander, FRC; BG Gregory Masiello, Assistant Commander for Logistics and Industrial Operations (AIR 6.0); and Todd Balazs, AIR 6.0 Deputy Assistant Commander.

When RADM Sohl became COMFRC, F/A-18 aircraft were nearly half of the fleet aircraft were Out Of Reporting, that is, undergoing maintenance, either planned or unplanned and not mission ready. Multiple factors contribute to the high OOR rate. RADM Sohl is focused on the collaborative efforts across the Naval Aviation Enterprise (NAE) which continues to bring that number down and deliver the aircraft back to the fleet.

The needs to coordinate to deliver the common goal of fleet readiness are varied: There is the cutting edge additive manufacturing technology using 3-D modeling to create prototypes to “print” from digital files. Also imperative is critical chain project management, a method of planning and managing projects that emphasizes the resources (people, equipment, physical space) required to execute project tasks. And everything must work together, which is supported by the integrated logistics support management system (ILSMS) tool all work together toward the common goal of fleet readiness.

RADM Sohl, Mr. West, BG Masiello and Mr. Balazs will deliver a panel presentation aimed at increasing awareness of these tools that are required to sustain naval aviation and increase readiness.

Register here for the program. Doors open at 7:30 am for Check in & Coffee; the briefing begins at 8 and concludes at 9:30 am.  The briefing will be held at the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center, Building 2, Center Hall, 44219 Airport Rd, California, MD 20619
