First-Ever Cyber Camp Planned

Cyber Camp

Don’t let the kids sit around and be bored all summer long. The Patuxent Partnership will partner with St. Mary’s County Public Schools to offer the first-ever Cyber Camp for students who are entering grades 7 and 8.

The camp will work to teach children about the career field of cyber security, a field that grows exponentially every day. The camp will allow children to learn through fun hands-on and interactive activities.

During the camp, the students will learn and apply the basic concepts of programming, cryptography, and forensics from activities such as gaming, modeling, and simulation. The exercises will explore the interconnections of math, science, technology, and computers.

These topics are perfect for middle school students, who often lose interest in the sciences if the subjects are not cultivated. Cyber Camp has been created to set a foundation for a love of STEM in every student who chooses to participate.

Cyber Camp will be held twice this summer; first during the week of July 18 to 21 and second during the week of July 25 to 28. Both camps will be at the Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center at 24005 Point Lookout Road south of Leonardtown. They will meet from 9 am to 3 pm.

Tuition for students who live in St. Mary’s County is $150. Tuition for residents of other counties is $190 plus fees for any materials that are needed. Camp tuition is not refundable.

Spaces for this first Cyber Camp are limited. If the sessions fill up, wait lists will be formed.
