Nearly three years ago, Ed Greer, executive director of the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division at Patuxent River Naval Air Station, left his position to head to Arlington, Virginia and serve as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Developmental Test and Evaluation.

On Tuesday, Greer announced to members of The Patuxent Partnership that he will be retiring from government service Jan. 3, 2013 after 33 years. Greer began his career at Pax River as an electronics repairman with Dyncorp in 1976 before transitioning to government service. His retirement announcement follows:

It is with mixed emotion that I announce my decision to retire from Government service, effective January 3, 2013. Throughout the past 33 years, I have been blessed with a rewarding and enjoyable career and I have been equally blessed to serve with so many incredibly talented people. I accepted my current position on the OSD staff to rebuild Developmental Test & Evaluation, reinvigorate the Test Resource Management Center, and to set the vector in a new direction. I earnestly hope I have assisted in accomplishing this mission. It is time to turn the leadership baton of these great organizations over to new leadership and begin the next chapter of my personal and professional life.

I am so proud of both organizations and all that they accomplished. Over the last three years, the DT&E staff met every challenge with professionalism and excellence, and built an admirable reputation throughout the OSD staff for accurate data analysis and program assessments. Their outstanding performance changed the course of many major acquisition programs and helped them succeed. Since April 2011, the TRMC staff helped me rebuild a new and vibrant organization, which is now optimized to support the test resource needs of the Services. They delivered a wealth of professional knowledge and engineering expertise that has resulted in better stewardship of the national T&E infrastructure. I would not have been able to enhance our missions without the support of the highly dedicated experts within DT&E and TRMC.

As I return to Southern Maryland to spend more time with my family, I will cherish memories of my service at NAVAIR and as a political appointee on the OSD Staff. I look forward to continuing personal and professional relationships with all of you.

Warm regards,

Ed Greer
