Destination Imagination Team 1st in State

Students at Father Andrew White SJ School in Leonardtown, MD, who are on the Destination Imagination team Hidden Six took first place in the state of Maryland in their division’s challenge and were invited to compete in the DI Global Competition. The team is being applauded by The Patuxent Partnership.

FAW teamThe students were honored by the commissioners of St. Mary’s County at a proclamation ceremony recently.

“With the support of Mrs. Linda Maloney, principal, and the guidance and leadership of Mr. Barry Freese, team manager, and Mrs. Jody Cacko, school DI coordinator, Father Andrew White’s team Hidden Six placed first in the state in its Division’s Challenge, In Plain Sight, and was invited to the DI Global Competition,” St. Mary’s County Commissioner Todd Morgan said.

DI tournaments have brought 150,000 students from 30 countries together to compete in the Global Finals. FAW School qualified at a regional competition April 9, 2016.

The Hidden Six competed in the In Plain Sight Challenge. The students presented their solutions at tournaments, at which they are tested to think on their feet, work together, and create original solutions that satisfy the requirements of the challenges.

Team members include Anthony Cacko, Abby Cosgrove, Katelyn Freese, Kaitlyn Lamb, Elizabeth Norris, and Katie Richardson. The students were commended by the commissioners for their outstanding work and dedication to create a stronger and better community.

Destination Imagination is a nonprofit organization that is led by volunteers and is driven by a number of causes. DI has developed a successful educational program that encourages students from kindergarten through their university years to develop and use teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving skills in the arts, social sciences, math, and engineering.
