Deadline to Register/Change Party Affiliation – April 5

Important deadlines for the upcoming 2016 Presidential Primary Election are approaching. The deadline to register to vote, change party affiliation, update an address, and request an alternate polling place for this election is Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at 9 pm.

Maryland Primary Election – April 26, 2016, 7 am until 8 pm

  • Early Voting for the Primary Election – Thursday, April 14, 2016 through Thursday, April 21, 2016 from 10 am until 8 pm.

United States General Election – November 8, 2016, 7 am until 8 pm

  • Early Voting for the General Election – Thursday, October 27, 2016 through Thursday, November 3, 2016 from 8 am until 8 pm.

To vote in the upcoming primary election, Maryland residents who are eligible to vote but are not yet registered – including 17-year-olds who will be 18 years old or older on or before the November 8 General Election – must register by the 9 pm deadline on April 5.  This is also the last day for registered voters to update their address at their local board of elections or change their party affiliation.

St. Mary’s County residents with a Maryland driver’s license or MVA-issued ID may register to vote, change their address, or change their party affiliation online here. Voters and members of the military, their spouses and dependents who are overseas and who do not have a Maryland driver’s license or MVA-issued ID, may also register or change their address or party affiliation online using different identifying information.

Paper voter registration applications must be hand-delivered or mailed to the St. Mary’s County Board of Elections, 41650 Tudor Hall Rd, Leonardtown, MD 20650. A hand-delivered application must be received by the St. Mary’s County Board of Elections by 9 pm on April 5 and a mailed application must be postmarked by April 5.

In St. Mary’s County, in addition to the statewide primary slate, three seats on the St. Mary’s County Board of Education will appear on ballots. In addition to president, Maryland voters will be making choices for their US Senator, many for their Congressional Representative as well their party delegates to the respective Democratic and Republican conventions.

Calvert County Board of Elections is located at 30 Duke St, Prince Frederick, MD 20678 and Charles County Board of Elections at 201 Charles St, La Plata, MD 20646.
