Code Home Rule Explained Jan. 7

St. Mary’s County Chamber of Commerce will present a briefing on Code Home Rule, Jan. 7, 2016, 9 – 10:30 am at Engility Corporation’s offices in the 1st floor conference room at 22290 Exploration Drive, Lexington Park, MD. A referendum to adopt Code Home Rule will be on the St. Mary’s County ballot in the November 2016 general election.

The speaker will be Leslie Knapp, Jr., Legal and Policy Counsel with the Maryland Association of Counties.

The Commissioenrs of St. Mary’s County are hosting a series of public hearings regarding a proposed move to the Code Home Rule form of government. St. Mary’s County is currently governed by the commissioner form of government.

Code Home Rule would allow the county commissioners to enact local laws on a number of subjects that commissioner forms of government cannot enact without action by the Maryland General Assembly.

To avoid misconceptipons about Code Home Rule and what it would mean for St. Mary’s County, St. Mary’s County Chamber of Commerce is hosting this unbiased educational session.
