Two New Buildings Expand Webster Field Mission

Congressman Steny Hoyer and Sen. Benjamin Cardin visited Naval Air Station Patuxent River’s Webster Outlying Field in St. Inigoes, Maryland Wednesday to participate in groundbreaking ceremonies for two new buildings that will expand missions at the base.

The first groundbreaking was held for the P-140 Communication Engineering Building, a $10 million, 18,000-square-f00t facility for the Special Communications Requirements Division (SCR) of NAVAIR. Hoyer credited former Webster Field executive director Bob Waxman with foreseeing the need for a second building for SCR activities, and Cardin credited Hoyer for ensuring that the project was funded.

Hoyer and Cardin then visited the site of the future Tactical Unmanned Aerial Systems Operations Building for A Company, Detachment 1 of the Maryland National Guard’s 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment, where they were joined by Maj. Gen. James A. Adlins, Adjutant General of Maryland. The 9,916-square-foot facility will cost $9.9 million and house operations, maintenance, training and administration for the Guard’s fleet of Shadow 200 unmanned aircraft.
