Bridging the Gap in a Diverse Workforce

New Leadership

The Patuxent Partnership in collaboration with Next Gen Professionals and AVIAN LLC will present Bridging the Gap from 5 to 7 pm Tuesday, Aug. 2.

From typewriter to tablet, fountain pen to email, sticky notes to texting, group meetings to Google Hangouts, snapshots to Snap Chat, young employees are challenging norms within the workplace.

Bridging the Gap is a panel discussion focusing on the positives of a diverse workforce, learning to appreciate communication differences, and overcoming preconceived notions of how work is performed.

The program will be held Tuesday, Aug. 2, at AVIAN LLC, just south of Gate One on Route 235 in Lexington Park. Check-in and networking reception begins at 5 pm, with the panel discussion ending by 7 pm.

Today’s workforce includes an expansive age range: college graduates working their first jobs, stay-at-home moms re-entering the workforce, and the baby boomers who still have much to offer, well past the typical retirement age. It is a great opportunity for younger workers to learn from experienced colleagues, as well as for the more seasoned employees to learn new technologies and ways of problem solving from the younger generation.

Dr. Louis Hicks, Professor of Sociology at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, is the panel moderator, and additional panelists include Kevin Switick, Chief Executive Officer, AVIAN, LLC; Bennett Wilson, Senior Consultant, Tech Transfer, Hyperion Technologies,LLC; and Christina Payne, Director of Human Resources and Recruitment, Precise Systems Inc.

There is no cost for this program. Advance registration is requested. To register, please visit the website linked to above.

The Patuxent Partnership also will present a Risk Management Framework discussion in August.

As threats become increasingly sophisticated, persistent, and diverse, US Navy personnel, processes, and systems also must increase vigilance and capability to mitigate unauthorized access, malicious attacks, and denial of service.

These objectives were previously met under the Department of Defense Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation Process. Risk Management Framework is the replacement for DIACAP and will now be the mechanism by which NAVAIR meets the cybersecurity challenges confronting Navy information and information systems.

Join Darryl Allen, deputy CIO for cybersecurity/information assurance, as he discusses NAVAIR’s transition from RMF to DIACAP, NAVAIR’s designation of a Functional Authorizing Official, Functional Security Control Assessor, and what this means for aviation systems and weapons platforms.

The presentation will be Tuesday, Aug. 16, at the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center in California, MD.
