St. Mary’s County Sleep in Heavenly Peace continues to build beds for kids in St. Mary’s County. Sign up to volunteer for the October SHP Bed Sanding and Building Days.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace volunteers build, deliver, and assemble beds for children ages 3 to 17 who don’t have a bed of their own — so that no kid sleeps on the floor.

Come get a little sandy at the workshop where volunteers work to build beds for children.
There are several shifts from which to choose. You can come to a sanding and lumber prep event held during the week, or you can attend a Saturday build shift to also sand if that’s your preferred task, but there’s also opportunities to drill, assemble, tap holes in the wood, and much more. There’s even an “Easter Egg” station where volunteers dip the lumber into our solution of vinegar and steel wool to protect the wood. You’ll come out smelling like Easter.
No experience necessary for any of the stations and we’ll teach you everything you need to know. All tools, safety gear, and equipment are provided.
All beds are delivered with new bedding – a pillow, twin sheets, and a comforter. All sponsorship money is tax-deductible, remains local, and goes toward improving the well-being of kids in Southern Maryland.
You can also donate new twin-size sheets, pillows, and bedding items.
