3rd STEM-ING Event
The Patuxent Partnership is proud to sponsor the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics – Inspiring the Next Generation (STEM-ING) event for the third year. This one day “STEM-ING” event is designed for middle and high school girls in the tri-county region to gain exposure to the STEM fields and associated careers. Throughout the day, 150 young women will hear from positive role models in the STEM industry and academia and will have an opportunity to select from 15 fun, interactive, and challenging STEM related workshops. STEM-ING successfully has inspired over 180 young women to the exciting world of STEM. TPP is looking forward to again partnering with our community, to inspire more young women.
The STEM-ING 2015 event will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2015, on the St. Mary’s College of Maryland campus in St. Mary’s MD. On behalf of STEM-ING, TPP is asking for STEM workshop ideas and volunteers to support this great event. Each workshop is 50 minutes in duration and should be fun, interactive, and educational. They should also help middle and/or high school girls to learn about a particular STEM topic.
There have been many popular workshops over the past few years. One example was the “C.S.I Know Whodunit!” workshop where students were asked to use forensic science and mathematics to solve a crime like Sherlock Holmes. Another was “The Beauty of Science” where students used chemistry, mixtures, and chemical engineering to create self-made lip gloss. “Delicious DNA” was another successful workshop where students learned about genetic patterning and built DNA helixes with gummy bears. TPP would like to hear your ideas!
