This family business began as a simple sawmill back as early as the 1920s with lumber sales coming shortly after and the hardware store portion opening in 1954. Their core inventory from 1954 is not much different from today’s with traditional products like lumber, fasteners, plumbing, and paint products.
The lumber yard will immediately captivate your senses, greeting you with the smell of cedar as you walk into the first large barn. Selections of specialty hardwoods like walnut, red oak, and mahogany are abundant and already kiln dried. Softwoods like poplar, birch, white pine, western red cedar, basswood, yellow pine, fir, and maple seem to be stacked all around. Rough cut lumber is also available along with a large stock of specialty and marine grade plywood.
It is however some of the other ‘out of the box’ products that make Dyson Building Center something for national chain retailers to worry about. They know Southern Maryland and have all the products and knowledge you may need for projects that are unique to this area. Many visitors may be surprised to see a toy department that rivals many small toy shops. Dyson Building Center is a dealer of Melissa and Doug, John Deere, Radio Flyer, and other construction oriented toy brands. The store’s pet department has everything you need to keep your small companions happy. The large automotive department has all of the basics and the work wear section is a must visit for anyone that needs quality work clothing. Dyson Building Center has a wide range of coveralls, overalls, shirts, jackets, pants, and footwear by popular brands like Dickies, Helly Hansen, Viking, Diamondback, and Riggs Workwear by Wrangler.
The work wear department is located next to the service counter where you are certain to see one of the staff helping a customer through a problem like a broken faucet or helping them plan their next do it yourself project. The team at Dyson Building Center also provides services like glass and key cutting, pipe threading, lumber rough cutting, or lock re-keying. Their staff will even help you special order anything that might not be in stock.
