Leonardtown, La Plata Campuses Offering Ballroom, Latin, and Swing Lessons

Get off the couch and put on your dancing shoes! The College of Southern Maryland has a number of dance courses to help you learn to cut a rug.

Classes are offered for all skill levels, and for individuals or couples, starting this month on the La Plata and Leonardtown campuses. Among the styles offered this fall include ballet, ballroom, Latin, hand and swing dancing. Students will learn the dance’s basic concepts and techniques.

You don’t need to have prior experience or even a partner for dance classes at CSM.

Dance is a great exercise. The American Association for Retired Persons (AARP) says dancing is good for the body, strengthening bones, toning muscles, improving posture and balance, increasing stamina and flexibility, reducing stress and tension, building confidence and warding off illnesses like diabetes, high blood pressure, osteoporosis and depression. You can vary the level of physical exertion, allowing dances to be tailored for any age.

You can register for dance classes until the day prior to the start of class; do it online, through walk-in registration at any campus and the Waldorf Center or by mail using a downloadable form.
