Workshop Aims to Break Bid Barriers

Workshop break bid barriers

Is your business ready to compete for federal, state, and local highway construction contracts? Are you a Maryland Disadvantage Business Enterprise company? Then get ready to update your calendar with a workshop that will help you update your business. The College of Southern Maryland, Small Business Development Center, and the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration are working together to reduce the barriers for DBE firms.

On Dec. 9, 2016, from 8 to 10 am, a workshop titled “Breaking the Bid Barriers” has been scheduled at the Hilton Garden Inn at 13100 Dowell Road in Solomons, Maryland. The outreach session will address how the Business Development Accelerator Program can help a business grow and diversify its government customers including local, state, and federal jobs.

This workshop is designed specifically for businesses that want to learn how to successfully bid for highway construction projects. Bidding for projects is rarely a simple process and barriers seem to exist throughout. Bids must comply with what can sometimes be a large amount of paperwork and parameters. This workshop can help the average small business navigate those hurdles and be successful in acquiring bids.

One of the organizations behind the workshop is the Small Business Development Center in Southern Maryland. Across the country, these centers work to help small businesses and entrepreneurs to become and remain competitive in the global and local marketplace. The centers are hosted by organizations like the College of Southern Maryland, or local governments and departments of economic development. Advisers with the centers provide a variety of free and low-cost business consulting services, like training, development of a business planning, financial packaging and lending assistance, market research help, and more.

Sponsors for the event include Calvert and St. Mary’s County governments and the Southern Maryland Minority Chamber of Commerce. Click here to register, or contact Ann Frank, outreach coordinator, at [email protected] or 301-539-4688.
