Walden Offers Services to Stop Cycle of Violence

Walden Domestic Violence

October was Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Walden Behavioral Health is reminding Southern Maryland residents that the organization is ready and willing to help when needed.

Since 1981, the United States has recognized this important subject every October. Domestic violence is sometimes a silent tragedy, and while more women come forward as victims; men can be victimized as well. By raising awareness of the issue, groups such as Walden Behavioral Health hope to bring people together to end the cycle of abuse that frequently happens within families.

Walden301x75In October, Walden encouraged residents to wear purple and bring attention to the domestic violence. Walden’s Beautiful Women Domestic Violence Recovery Group created T-shirts, which were on display in the art gallery of the Lexington Park Library.

Every year, Walden sees more than 350 cases that are related to domestic violence. Clients who come in for counseling might have experienced verbal, emotional, psychological, physical or sexual abuse, or combinations of more than one type of abuse.

Walden has several ways for St. Mary’s County residents to get help. The 24/7 hotline is always available at 301-863-6661, or call 888-912-7366 for an appointment.
