When Dr. Michael Szkotnicki moved his Breton Medical Center urgent care facility to San Souci Plaza from Leonardtown, he discovered the need in Lexington Park, Maryland was quickly overwhelming. He credits Shah Associates, specifically Dr. V.K. Shah, for driving the completion of a larger facility officially opened this week at Route 235 and Buck Hewitt Road.

Szkotnicki was a Medical Officer at Pax River and Director of Emergency Medicine at St. Mary’s Hospital. In 1992, he founded the Breton Medical Center and continued his practice for eight years before joining Shah Associates.

Walk-in medical services are provided the same way they were at the former San Souci location in a larger building designed to accommodate a widening array of primary care services.

At that ground breaking ceremony last Saturday, Dr. Szkotnicki was teased about what he’d described a decade before as his desire to be the Wal-Mart of primary care. But in a tribute to Szkotnicki, Dr. J. Patrick Jarboe, the new medical center’s namesake, said that was always the right idea.

Jarboe’s daughter reads his comments at Saturday’s ceremony:
