UAV Solutions, a company that manufactures, tests, and designs unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems, is looking to expand into St. Mary’s County in continued support of the University of Maryland.

The University of Maryland is opening next month a UAV test site at the Walter Francis Duke Regional Airport five miles north of the Patuxent River Naval Air Station.

During a tour of UAV Solutions’ Jessup factory, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer praised the company’s plans to expand into Southern Maryland.

“I am very excited that UAV Solutions is looking to expand their business to St. Mary’s County in the Fifth District,” said Congressman Hoyer. “As an industry partner in the successful Mid-Atlantic Region’s bid to be selected as one of six FAA test sites, I’ve been impressed with UAV Solutions’ commitment to collaborating with federal and state government; higher-education institutions; and other partners to increase our region’s competitiveness and diversification. I’m pleased UAV Solutions is looking to bring their innovative team and collaborative approach to Southern Maryland, where I am sure they will benefit from synergy and close proximity to Pax River Naval Air Station, a premier test site of autonomous systems activity, and other exciting opportunities.”

Congressman Hoyer also took the opportunity of the UAV Solutions factory tour in Jessup, MD, to discuss the Make It In America initiatives he is leading in Congress to increase manufacturing and jobs in the United States.

“Make It In America focuses on strengthening domestic manufacturing and creating good jobs here, just like those at UAV Solutions,” he said.

“We are so honored to have hosted Congressman Hoyer, Delegate John Bohanan and staff members at our factory in Jessup, MD,” said Billie Ann Davidson, President of UAV Solutions, Inc. “We were able to give the Congressman a firsthand view of our full scale manufacturing facility, dedicated staff, and innovative approaches to rapidly creating unmanned systems to meet our customers’ needs.  We are excited for the opportunity to expand our manufacturing capabilities into Saint Mary’s County in continued support of the University of Maryland, St. Mary’s County, and the State of Maryland.”

UAV Solutions is a woman-owned small business that was established in 2006, growing from two to 63 employees over the last eight years and investing $3 million in their manufacturing capability over three years. UAV Solutions has worked closely with the University of Maryland Clark School of Engineering to provide a UAV for the University, which was an important component to the Mid-Atlantic’s bid to be selected as an FAA test site.
