Twilight Series Returns to CSM

Summer Shows Bring History, Music, Theater to Local Audiences

The College of Southern Maryland’s Twilight Performance Series will  return for its 10th season this summer at the college’s three Southern Maryland campuses.

The events will offer free, family-friendly entertainment to local residents on the La Plata, Leonardtown, and Prince Frederick campuses. Guests can expect to be entertained by national and local jazz, rock and military bands, and CSM’s Children’s Theatre as well as by Chautauqua’s historical portrayals.

Performances by local and nationally recognized musicians will take place on Tuesdays, July 12, 19 and 26, at the Leonardtown campus; with Chautauqua performers at the La Plata campus July 12, 13 and 14, and a musical concert July 20; and musical performances on Thursdays, July 21 and 28, at the Prince Frederick campus.

CSM’s Children’s Theatre’s performance of “Spirit of Hispania: Hispanic Tales,” produced by special arrangement with Samuel French Inc.,  will take place indoors on all three campuses, with performances at the Leonardtown campus Aug. 2, the La Plata campus Aug. 3, and the Prince Frederick campus Aug. 4.

  • July 12: Dave Chappell Band
  • July 19: Afro Bop Alliance
  • July 26: Coastline
  • Aug. 2: Children’s Play (CSM Theatre Program): “Spirit of Hispania: Hispanic Tales.” Produced by special arrangement with Samuel French Inc.

La Plata campus

  • July 12-14: Chautauqua: Masters of Their Craft. All performances are at 6:45 pm
  • July 12: Duke Ellington, the incomparable showman, was one of the greatest composers of the 20th century with a career that spanned more than 50 years.
  • July 13: Gwendolyn Brooks, the first African-American to win a Pulitzer Prize, captured the black experience in America through her poetry.
  • July 14: Ernest Hemingway, one of the greatest American literary figures of the 20th century, continues to influence modern literature with his trademark style of simple yet perceptive prose.
La Plata campus – Wednesdays. All performances are at 6:45 pm
  • July 20: US Navy Band Navy Commodores
  • Aug. 3: Children’s Play (CSM Theatre Program): “Spirit of Hispania: Hispanic Tales.” Produced by special arrangement with Samuel French Inc.
Prince Frederick campus – Thursdays. All performances are at 6:45 pm
  • July 21: Jennifer Cooper and GrooveSpan
  • July 28: US Navy Band Sea Chanters
  • Aug. 4: Children’s Play (CSM Theatre Program): “Spirit of Hispania: Hispanic Tales.” Produced by special arrangement with Samuel French Inc.

The Twilight Series will take place outdoors on the Leonardtown Campus great lawn at 22950 Hollywood Road, the La Plata campus Fine Arts Building lawn at 8730 Mitchell Road, and the Prince Frederick campus patio at 115 J.W. Williams Road. Audience members are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket as well as food or beverages. No alcohol will be permitted.

In the event of rain, performances will move indoors. On the Leonardtown campus in the Building A auditorium; on the La Plata campus, performances will be in the Fine Arts Center;  and on the Prince Frederick campus in the Building B multipurpose room.

Performances are subject to change.
