Thornton to Lead CSM Corporate Center

Corporate Center

Angela Thornton, the new director of the Corporate Center at the College of Southern Maryland, has extensive experience in both workforce and economic development. That experience will serve her and CSM well as she works to build relationships between state and local agencies, institutions of learning, and the business community.

“I believe that a strong economy consists of a well-trained workforce which meets the needs of today’s employer as well as skills necessary for the future,” Thornton said.

CSM’s Corporate Center offers comprehensive education, training, and consulting for organizations that hope to increase employee productivity and organizational efficiency. The center works to focus on acquisition management, computer office skills, human resource management, leadership, project management, and workforce and communication skills. The Corporate Center also works with chambers of commerce in Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s counties to bring nationally recognized trainers to the region, providing Southern Maryland with high-caliber programs at a reasonable price.

Ms. Thornton has built relationships with Maryland businesses, state agencies, chambers of commerce, and nonprofit organizations. That unique perspective will provide her insight into what skills are necessary for advancement and economic growth, she said.

She has served on the boards of directors for Charles County Chamber of Commerce, Hospice of Charles County and Community Foundation of Southern Maryland. Through these roles she learned the importance of successfully building relationships within the business community.

Ms. Thornton holds an Associate of Science degree from Lamar University in Texas and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern Mississippi.
