The Behavioral Health Action Team is next meeting Aug. 7 at the Lexington Park Library – Meeting Room 5:30 – 7 pm.

On June 27 Governor Martin O’Malley announced the formation of the Overdose Prevention Council to counter an increase in the number of overdose deaths. Under Governor O’Malley’s leadership, the state has added drug and alcohol overdose deaths to the Administration’s 16 strategic goals and is currently working to drive down overdose deaths by 20 percent by 2015.  According to the recently released  DHMH report, “2013 Drug and Alcohol-Related Intoxication Deaths in Maryland,” the number of heroin deaths in the state have increased 88 percent since 2011. This is partially a result of users shifting from prescription drugs to heroin. Click here for more information.

The Cove/DFZ of Walden invites leaders of any and all youth teams, clubs, scouting troops and faith community youth groups to book a “Cove Experience” for your group. The Cove/DFZ is a youth wellness center for 12-17 year old youth with a great menu of activities and wellness options to choose from for your group. Youth leaders can work with Cove staff to plan and carry out your group’s tailored wellness experience, meeting or retreat. The Cove Experience is free to youth groups in St. Mary’s County and is available by reservation for any Tuesday 3 – 6 pm or by special arrangement. For more information or to get a Cove Experience catalogue, e-mail us at [email protected] or call us at 301-997-1300 x 865 or 804. Check out the Cove on Facebook.
