Summer Art Classes Abound at Annmarie

  Adult Classes:

Annmarie Garden will present a Watercolor Bold and Loose Class, a two-class series taught by Nancy Thompson, July 9 & 10, 2013, 10:00 am – 3:30 pm. This two-day workshop will give you techniques and tools to make your watercolors bold and loose using color and contrast. It is a workshop suitable for all levels. Annmarie Garden will present Stained Glass – 3D Fairies, taught by Leza Hepler, on July 13, 2013, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm. For beginning and intermediate students, come learn basic copper foil techniques and use them to create a 3-dimensional fairy for your home. Finished product is roughly 10″ long.  Annmarie Garden will present a Getting Started With Pastel, a three-class series taught by Mary Ellen Carsley, July 31 – August 2, 2013; 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. This course is designed for the beginning and intermediate student interested in focusing their efforts on developing strong color skills through the medium of pastel and its various techniques. Students will have the opportunity to hone their drawing and compositional skills as well. Cost is $70 for non-members; $65 for members. Annmarie Garden will present Watercolor, The Next Step, a two-class series led by Nancy Thompson, August 6-7, 2013; 10:00 am -3:30 pm.  This two-day watercolor workshop is designed to take the watercolor painter to the NEXT step. Using tools like composition, value, color, and more, you will be encouraged to develop your own style of work. We will also address how to increase sales through marketing and exhibition and how to enter juried shows.  Annmarie Garden will present Intro to Stained Glass, led by Leza Hepler, on August 11, 2013; 10:00 am- 2:00 pm.  Learn the fundamentals behind stained glass art as we explore the copper foil technique. Learn to cut, shape and grind glass, as well as foiling and soldering techniques to make a small sun-catcher for your window. All materials included.  Cost is $45 for non-members; $40 for members.  Annmarie Garden will present Sea Glass Jewelry, led by Liz Printz, on August 11, 2013, 1:00 pm-3:00 pm.  Create a beautiful pendant and matching earrings with sea glass found on local southern Maryland beaches. Students will learn quick, easy assembly techniques to incorporate sea glass and beachy found objects into fun, creative jewelry.  There is a materials fee of $30 due at class.  Cost is $30 for non-members; $25 for members.  Annmarie Garden will present Girls Night Out: Wine and Dish, a two-class series taught by Sarah Houde, on August 26 & September 9, 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm both nights. Grab your favorite snack or beverage and join us for a fun night out as we use soft clay slabs and coils to make traditional or whimsical serving platters. Learn to add textural embellishments and colorful glazes while making your platter dishwasher and food safe. Cost is $70 for non-members; $65 for members.  Children’s classes:

 Annmarie Garden will present Spectacular Shadow Puppets!, for ages 9-13, July 25 & July 26, 2013, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. Learn how to draw animals and make puppets from your drawings in the ancient tradition of the Asian Shadow puppet theater. Put on a show for your peers! Cost is $45 for non-members; $40 for members.  Annmarie Garden will present Play in Clay:  Fabulous Fairy & Gnome Homes, for ages 6 and above, July 25 & July 26, 2013, 1:00 – 4:00 pm. Have you explored Annmarie’s fabulous fairy houses? Learn techniques to create a ceramic fairy house or gnome home to display in your yard! Pinch, coil, and slab techniques will be demonstrated. Parents must sign up with children ages 6-11; parents get to make their own creature, too!
