Congressman Steny Hoyer met Pax River employees last week about the “irrational policy of sequester” and ending the furloughs that impact 46,000 civilian defense workers at Pax River and military installations across Maryland.

“I wanted to take the opportunity to hear firsthand how these furloughs have already begun to impact morale at Pax River and the lives of these hardworking, dedicated public servants who support our uniformed personnel and enhance the security and well-being of our country,” said Mr. Hoyer

Through cuts, such as changes to retirement benefits and freezes of “cost-of-living adjustments,” efforts affecting federal employees have already contributed $114 billion towards deficit reduction, according to Mr. Hoyer.

“These furloughs threaten our local economy, as well as the mission of Pax River and other defense installations in our state and across the country,” said Mr. Hoyer after speaking with local federal employees.
