noise advisory

More than $57 billion in total output and $25.6 billion in wages came to Maryland from 15 military installations located in the state. NAS Patuxent River generates $7.5 billion and $2.4 billion of those totals.

The Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) Office of Military Affairs tasked the Regional Economic Studies Institute (RESI) of Towson University with estimating the economic impacts of Maryland’s military installations on the State’s economy.

The MD military installations study was developed using base-specific data regarding payroll, procurement, visitor, and other spending.

The MD Military Installations Study analyzed federal data from fiscal year 2012 and compared the findings to benchmark data gathered in the last study of the installations, released in 2010 using federal fiscal year 2008 figures.

This represents a pre-BRAC and post-BRAC analysis. The results show  continued growth within the defense sector.  During that four year period, the economic impact on the State increased from $36B to $57B and added well over 85,000 jobs to Maryland’s economy.
