St. Mary's College of Maryland logoAfter a nationwide search, St. Mary’s College of Maryland has appointed Sean Tallarico as its new director of public safety. Mr. Tallarico comes to St. Mary’s from East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania. He will assume his new position at St. Mary’s Feb. 4.

“I am excited about joining St. Mary’s College and its public safety team,” said Mr. Tallarico. “My hope is to create a positive environment in which students and employees feel safe while learning, working and living in our college community.”

“It is Sean’s demonstrated leadership and community policing approach to law enforcement that impressed the search committee and me,” said Roberto “Bert” Ifill, interim dean of students and head of the search committee. “I believe that the college community will find Sean to be an energetic participant in the life of the college, eager to lead and to learn. We welcome him aboard.”

Tallarico has an extensive background in campus security, including 25 years as creator and director of the Department of Campus Safety for Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pa. He has also served as president and board member of the Northeast Colleges and Universities Security Association.
