Spring Break is All About the Animals at AMG

School is Out, Art is In

Don’t let the structure-free days of spring break turn into a video game marathon! Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center in Solomons, Md., is planning a spring break day camp for kids in grades kindergarten through fifth grade, allowing your children to keep learning while having a great time during their break.

The day camp, “School’s Out Day Camp – Into the Woodlands,” will be offered this year from Monday, March 21, through Friday, March 25, from 9 am to 3 pm each day. Register for each day separately.

The 2016 spring break will be all about animals! Kids can come to this day camp and create art inspired by their favorite woodland creatures. Children will discover famous works of art inspired by fauna, and then they will create accessories of feather and fur, and embark on a journey through the forest that surrounds Annmarie Garden. Children can pack a lunch, dress like they’re ready to make a mess, and get ready to learn in new and creative ways.

Tuesday of the camp will be dedicated to creating artwork that is inspired by the usual creatures of Australia. From the marvelous world of marsupials to the Great Barrier Reef, kids will observe the unique wildlife and habitats on this far away continent.

On Wednesday, the kids will make artwork that has been inspired by the Arctic and its icy inhabitants. They’ll learn about the differences between the Arctic, Sub-Arctic, and Antarctic regions, and learn what creatures call each place home. They’ll have a chance to invent imaginative mini worlds complete with cold-weather critters.

On Thursday, kids will study the savannah of Africa and the wild array of animals that call the continent home. Kids will create artwork that will be inspired by the many beautiful patterns of these mammals, and create grassy landscapes to take home.

The last day will be a tropical blast. On Friday, kids will take a journey to the tropical rainforest, where they can discover the weird and wonderful creatures that live there. They’ll see playful primates and cautious cats, then create art that is inspired by their favorite mammals. They might even meet a few lesser-known inhabitants along the way. Kids will be able to see famous jungle-inspired artwork and paint their own tropical self-portraits.

Pre-registration for School’s Out Day Camp – Into the Woodlands is required. Call 410-326-4640 or visit www.annmariegarden.org.
