workersUsing customer satisfaction feedback, Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) has been recognized as a 2014 Customer Champion. SMECO was one of only 50 companies in the nation to have earned such a distinction this year.

Other companies in this elite group include Amazon.com, Apple, Cadillac, JetBlue, and USAA.

To qualify, companies must not only excel within their own industries, but also must stand out among the nine industries included in the Customer Champions analysis by J.D. Power. To determine the J.D. Power 2014 Customer Champions, J.D. Power examined the five following factors: People, Presentation, Process, Product, and Price.

For the 2014 Customer Champions, J.D. Power evaluated more than 600 brands. The 2014 Champions were identified based on customer feedback, opinions, and perceptions gathered primarily from J.D. Powers’ syndicated research in 2013. This group of 50 represents the highest-performing U.S. companies that deliver service excellence, both within their respective industry and across the nine industries that were measured.

“We are honored to receive this distinction and to be included in this elite group of U.S. companies, said Austin J. Slater, Jr., SMECO president and CEO. “We are committed to customer satisfaction, and receiving this recognition from J.D. Power demonstrates to us that we have achieved a significant measure of success.”

He added, “As a co-op, providing the highest level of service to our members is what we’re all about. Whether we’re restoring power after a storm, building a transmission line, installing the most up-to-date computer systems and software, or responding to a customer inquiry, everything we do is for the benefit of our customer-members.”

SMECO provides electricity to more than 154,000 services in southern Prince George’s County, and in Charles County, St. Mary’s County, and all but the northeast portion of Calvert County.
