Sign Up Now for Health Coverage

Open enrollment for health coverage through Maryland Health Connections has begun and runs through Jan. 31, and Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (Md.-5) is encouraging residents to review their options and get signed up.

“Consumers throughout Maryland will be able to sign up for health coverage through the Maryland Health Connection and check their eligibility for tax credits to lower the cost of coverage,” Congressman Hoyer said. “I’m proud that the Affordable Care Act has significantly lowered the uninsured rate in Maryland and is providing patient protections to millions of Marylanders. Young people can stay on their parents’ insurance, seniors have saved millions on prescription drugs, and people with pre-existing conditions can no longer be discriminated against by insurance companies. However, Congress must do more to ensure that every Marylander continues to have access to affordable coverage, and I will be working with stakeholders to strengthen the Affordable Care Act.”

Maryland residents have a number of options for signing up. There is a newly redesigned website and a new mobile app, or residents can sign up over the phone or in person.

After consumer testing, the website for applying for coverage, MarylandHealthConnection.gov, was recently redesigned. A new app, “Enroll MHC,” has also launched so consumers can shop and apply for coverage on a mobile device. The app is available free in the App Store (iOS) and the Google Play Store (Android). Free in-person help to enroll is also available, and Marylanders can find assistance close to home by clicking here. Assistance is also available over the phone by calling toll-free 1-855-642-8572 (TTY: 1-855-642-8573) to reach the consumer support center. The deadline to sign up for coverage that begins Jan. 1 is Dec. 15. Jan. 31 is the last day to enroll for coverage for 2017. For more information on the Maryland Health Connection, click here.
