The congressman’s re-election campaign received welcome news earlier this year when the Maryland State and DC AFL-CIO endorsed him.

In February, Congressman Hoyer released the following statement today after receiving the endorsement:

“I am honored to receive the Maryland State and DC AFL-CIO’s endorsement. The dedicated men and women of labor helped lay the foundation for the economic success that our state and country is built upon, and the labor movement continues to be vital to ensuring that worker’s rights are protected and upheld. In Congress, I’ve been proud to lead the Make It In America plan to spur the growth of our manufacturing sector here in Maryland and across the country, while investing in education and skills training, improved infrastructure, and increased innovation. I look forward to continuing to work with the AFL-CIO and its members to create well-paying jobs in the Fifth District and across Maryland, and help ensure the American Dream remains within reach of every worker.”

Also this year, Congressman Hoyer received the Prince George’s County Social Innovation Fund’s Wayne K. Curry Forever 41 Award. The award recognizes a Prince George’s County leader, over the age of 40, who goes above and beyond the call of duty to develop next generational leadership. The Forever 41 Award was renamed in honor of former Prince George’s County Executive Wayne Curry. The award presentation was held during PGCSIF’s 2016 Forty UNDER 40 Awards Ceremony.

“I was honored and humbled to receive this award from the Prince George’s County Social Innovation Fund,” Mr. Hoyer said. “All of the Forty UNDER 40 young leaders have asked themselves what they can do for Prince George’s County, its communities, and its future. They are extraordinary young people who are improving lives and strengthening our communities, and for that we are grateful. I’m proud to be working alongside other federal, state, and local officials in Maryland and Prince George’s County to foster a new generation of leaders here who are smart, driven, and innovative.”
