veteran_familyHouse Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer released the following statement in recognition of Military Families Month, which is observed during the month of November:

“Today, we salute the men and women of the Armed Forces and recognize the tremendous sacrifices their spouses and children endure with frequent moves and long deployments. We owe them our gratitude, and, just as we have an obligation to ensure that our service members have every tool they need to be safe and successful in their missions, we must also stand steadfast in support of their families.

I’m pleased the Obama Administration remains focused on providing military families with the support they need through First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden’s Joining Forces Initiative.  As part of our ongoing efforts to help returning service members, veterans, and military spouses transition successfully from military life into the civilian workforce, House Democrats will continue to work in a bipartisan way to promote legislation allowing them to transfer their experience and skills into civilian certifications, licenses, or academic credits needed to find work.  Congress must do more to ensure military families across the country can access the opportunities that our military personnel work so hard to protect: a job that pays well, a good education, quality health care, and a secure place in a growing middle class.

“During Military Families Month and throughout the year, let us recognize the tremendous contributions of our nation’s heroes and their families, honor their daily sacrifices, and stand by our commitment to them with gratitude and admiration.
