The College of Southern Maryland’s Talons robotics team competes in a February qualifier for the VEX U World Championship at the La Plata, MD campus.

After competing at the qualifier for the VEX U World Championships, the College of Southern Maryland robotics team is still working to earn a spot in the world competition. CSM hosted the qualifier at the La Plata campus, but the home collegiate team, the Talons, still must compete in Skills Challenge to earn a spot in the April 2016 competition in Louisville, Ky.

Two teams that participated in the February qualifying competition earned spots in the VEX U Championships: Bots ‘n’ Stuff comprised of students from University of Maryland College Park, University of Massachusetts-Amherst, Drexel University, University of Vermont and Vermont Technical College was the Tournament Champion; and SciTech Robotics of George Mason University earned the Excellence Award.

The CSM Talons placed second in programming skills at the competition. The team will compete for a spot at the World Championship at a Skills Challenge event on March 5, 2016.

The CSM Talons Robotics Team is a subgroup of the CSM Talons Club at the College of Southern Maryland. When a CSM student joins the robotics club, he or she has to apply for membership on the robotics team. Students who are interested in also applying for the robotics team should fill out the team application and email it to one of the club advisers.

The CSM Talons Robotics Team competes in at least one competition during the fall semester and one in the spring semester. The team also scrimmages with local teams once or twice each semester.
