Row of Abberly Crest Apt HomesRenting is the American Dream for the new millennium, or so it would seem from the 2012 increase in housing rentals by single families.

This report out of the Abberly Crest Blog fits with the pattern this premier Lexington Park neighborhood sees in its own community. The Abberly Crest community is the choice of numerous defense contracting firms maintaining offices near Naval Air Station Patuxent River. Abberly Crest Apartment Homes announced plans last year to complete the full community build-out adding both more apartment homes and additional amenities in Lexington Park.

Joseph Coupal of the Abberly Crest Blog reports that the increasing selection of rental lifestyles is drawing investor attention:

According to Matthew Turgeon from Rhino Media Group, renting is on the rise all over. “We have seen a dramatic increase in rentals. The growth of the rental market has caused a new opportunity for both investors and renters.”

Mr. Coupal notes that in 2011 the Wall Street Journal reported home ownership at 69% at the end of 2005, 67.2% at the end of 2009, and 66.5% at the end of 2010. In 2012, the Journal reports home ownership no longer remains the best housing investment as the housing market and home prices stabilize.

Similar to younger and single households, older homeowners are finding renting after selling a large home making more sense than buying a smaller one. This decision can provide cash for other investment opportunities rather than sinking it back into the housing market.

And of course, one of the most important reasons to rent, for older renters as well as younger, is the greater availability of recreational facilities plus the flexibility and freedom from maintenance and yard work.

As spring approaches at Abberly Crest Apartment Homes, the benefits of professional landscaping come into full bloom. Located above the wooded headwaters of the St. Mary’s River, professional landscaping and perennial grounds upkeep provide a beautiful setting all year long, out every door and window.
