All are invited 9/29, 2-5 p.m. in celebration of National Recovery Month.

Beacon of Hope Recovery and Wellness Community Center and The Cove/D.F.Z. Youth Recovery and Wellness Center of Walden are sponsoring a free, public event on Sunday 9/29 from 2-5 p.m. in Millison Plaza, Lexington Park, outside Beacon of Hope at 21800 N. Shangri La Drive.

This outdoor/indoor event is a family friendly way of marking National Recovery Month, a month dedicated to highlighting the many ways that people can and do recover from addictive behaviors and other mental or behavioral health concerns.  National Recovery Month also invites us to explore the benefits of recovery to individuals, families and the community itself.

“The range of experiences of recovery, and the positive impact that folks in recovery tend to have on themselves, their families, and their communities, is really what we want to get the message out about each and every day at our recovery and wellness centers and most especially at our annual block party,” says Laura Webb, Resource Engagement Coordinator for Walden.  “Working with and among people choosing wellness and recovery is a joy.”

From 2-4 p.m., featured activities and entertainment will include a henna tattoo artist, face painting, a birthday almanac machine, fall pumpkin crafts, jewelry making, music, and Reggie the Magic Man. Information tables and staff from local wellness and recovery organizations and options will also be available.

The menu includes hot dogs, hamburgers, BBQ chicken sandwiches, potato salad, cole slaw, and Bruster’s ice cream.  Prizes for children and t-shirts (adult sizes) will also be available while supplies last.

At about 4 p.m., all those who would like to participate may join us in a Wellness Fun Walk.

All activities, entertainment and food at this event are free while supplies last.
