Pelicans Still Hanging Around

It’s that time of year again, and the cold weather is sending many local birds south to find warmer weather. However, the local flock of pelicans on the St. Mary’s River aren’t feeling too rushed, as this four minutes of raw footage taken over the weekend shows. The pelicans’ lackadaisical attitude toward migration got them into trouble two seasons ago, when several of them stuck around until January and suffered frostbite. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources speculates that the birds stay around to enjoy the schools of bait fish that linger in the area late into the fall.
