A 70th Anniversary Commissioning Day Ceremony is scheduled for April 1, 2013, at the Parade Field aboard Naval Air Station Patuxent River. The ceremony also marks the 120th year of the Chief Petty Officer rank.

During the installation’s commissioning 70 years ago, Rear Adm. John S. McCain, then chief of the Navy’s Bureau of Aeronautics, called Patuxent River the most needed station in the Navy and challenged those stationed “to carry a large part of the burden of ensuring that quality, imagination and resourcefulness are all included in our future equipment and in its typical use. You have the chance to make a great reputation.”

The 70th Anniversary Ceremony includes remarks from guest speaker retired Vice Adm. Joseph Dyer, June 2000-July 2003 commander of Naval Air Systems Command, a drill by the Calvert High School Navy Junior ROTC, “Happy Birthday” by Child Development Center youths, and a reading of the Chief Petty Officer’s Creed.
