Ornament Show and Sale at AMG Until Jan. 1

Decorate your Christmas tree with original works of art this year. Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Art Center in Solomons is offering its ninth annual Ornament Show and Sale through Jan. 1, 2017, in the Murray Arts Building.

The second half of the sale coincides with the beautiful Annmarie Garden in Lights, running through Jan. 1, 2017.

The Ornament Show and Sale is a great place to find unique ornaments for your own home or gifts for friends and family. Artists bring incredible, original pieces of artwork that vary from the silly and fun to delicate pieces that sparkle and shimmer. This is a great place to find affordable gifts, as artists are required to price their pieces between $4 and $28. Many of the artists use local themes of water, marine life, and Southern Maryland culture.

But finding the right ornament is only part of the fun. The gallery will be decked out in holiday spirit, and not with the usual Christmas trees. Each artist finds a way to display his or her ornaments in ways that are as unique and full of personality as the artists themselves. One artist displays her work on a six-foot metal fish skeleton, using the fish bones like branches. And that’s just one. About a dozen artists display their work at the sale each year, and they are frequently on site to talk about their artwork and sometimes even show how the pieces are made.

The pieces can be made from glass, paper, metal, and more and will be beautifully displayed in the main gallery of the arts building.

The Ornament Show and Sale is the perfect complement to Annmarie Garden in Lights, which will have live entertainment and more, from 6 to 9 pm each evening. The Garden in Lights will be closed Dec. 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 24, and 25.
