Newtowne Players’ Festival Features Two Local Writers

Three Notch TheaterThe Newtowne Players announce upcoming performances of four one-act plays, two of which are original scripts, during its annual Footlight Festival.

In Sure Thing, by David Ives, Betty and Bill meet at a restaurant, but their conversations are a little rocky  fortunately, they get a chance to redo every missed conversational opportunity.

Mental Reservations, by Roger Cornish, is an examination of how little everyday lies affect interactions between two people in a snapshot of their relationship.

Local playwright Mallory Green’s Avaritia depicts three characters of different time periods confessing their sins of greed and murder to the omnipresent Shade to learn the weight and purpose of their penances.

In Headquarters, by local author Peter E. Abresch, an elderly gentleman faces and comes to terms with the end of his life. This play was originally featured at the Maryland Community Theatre Festival in January 2012 and represented The Newtowne Players at the Eastern States Theatre Association Original Works Festival in Pennsylvania in April 2012.

The Newtowne Players will perform these one-act plays Thursdays through Sundays, June 1-10, 2012. Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances start at 8 p.m.; Sunday shows begin at 3:30 p.m. Performances are held at Three Notch Theatre on 21744 South Coral Drive in Lexington Park, Md. All tickets are $10 general admission. Light refreshments and beverages are also available for purchase at the theatre.
