Minefields at Sea Remain a Threat

Since the Second World War mines at sea have sunk or crippled 15 US Navy ships, Breaking Defense is running a series on how the US is handling the minefields at sea. The weapons are cheap and can be devastating.

Two congressmen introduce legislation to eliminate the Patriot Act passed days after Sept. 11, 2001 and  the 2008 FISA Amendments Act that allows NSA to collect information through the Internet, reports The Hill, which notes that passage is unlikely.

The VA plans to revise its “as the crow flies” measurement restricting veterans from seeking private medical care if a VA facility is within 40 miles of their home. The proposal is to measure distance by driving miles, reports The Hill.

Forbes reports Sen. Cory Brooker (D-NJ) seeks temporary conditions to allow businesses to use small unmanned aerial vehicles for such things as construction surveying or agricultural mapping, while the FAA develops final rules on UAVs. The legislation would upend the FAA’s current ban which contains only  a few exceptions.
