E-2C Hawkeye

The Patuxent River Naval Air Museum is hosting our first in a series of bimonthly Meet the Airplane events on Dec. 8 from noon till 3 p.m.  Come to the Museum and get to know the airplanes on the flightline.

Our focus airplane is the E-2, the one with the huge “saucer” on the top. Have you wondered what it really is and what it’s for? It’s a radar system! Come meet the airplane and find out more about why it’s there and what it does.

The Museum will have active duty military personnel on hand to answer your questions. We will have an indoor activity to demonstrate the basic concept of how radar works and what it’s used for. This will be fun for children of all ages. It will be educational too, but don’t let the kids know.

Food is sponsored by Days Off Catering and Music by GeeZer, the local band that keeps your foot tapping.  Join the exclusive FOD Club; find FOD (aka Foreign Objects that Damage aircraft) in and around the Museum; get your FOD Club Card stamped for additional savings at the Flightline Gift Shop.

The St Mary’s County Amateur Radio Association (SMCARA) will also be on hand. Have fun communicating via HAM radio! The SMCARA is the oldest amateur radio organization in Southern Maryland, established in 1956.

A 50/50 will be held for a lucky winner for the day. Another winner will be named for a re-marked Hank Caruso Aerocature print.   Additional Aerocature prints will be available at the Museum Gift Store with Hank Caruso, himself, on-site for autographing prints. (Oh by the way, the Museum’s Flightline Gift Shop has the largest collection of aviation themed merchandise in the Southern Maryland area.)

For any additional information needed or specific questions about the event, please do not hesitate to contact the Museum at 301-862-1900.
