MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital is making headway toward completing hospital construction projects that improve patient experience and allow for new and updated equipment.

Construction began in October 2013 with a scheduled completion date in early 2015. While some areas approach completion, many new spaces are ready and welcoming patients and community members.

“Starting every morning with safety and quality in the forefront, we have progressed well with a minimal amount of disruptions,” said Paul Graves, special projects coordinator for Plant Operations at MedStar St. Mary’s.

Part of the completed construction includes the newly finished Education & Simulation Center, which provides the latest technology and educational tools to associates, caregivers in the community, and allied health students from the local technology center.

Inside the hospital, patients scheduled for surgery now have access to a new patient waiting area, offices and exam room. New radiology rooms await those coming in for scans, and soon two new angiography suites, where scanning equipment produces images of patients’ blood vessels and organs, will be available.

Also in progress are the new Sleep Lab and the Post Anesthesia Care Unit. The Sleep Lab will include two large patient bedrooms with bathrooms, a monitoring office, reception, nutrition, and patient waiting areas. The Post Anesthesia Care Unit will undergo expansion, providing more space to enhance the patient experience.

Hospital associates are enjoying the new spaces, which allow for even greater patient care. MedStar St. Mary’s would like to thank the community for their patience, and look forward to providing them with a new, improved post-construction environment.
