MDA Gets Bail

Community leaders gathered for a Lock-Up event at Cheeseburger in Paradise in California Maryland to raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Participants known as “jailbirds” were given a “fun warrant” and whisked off to a mock jail at Cheeseburger in Paradise.  It was there that they had to try and break out by reaching their MDA bail of $3000.

Included among the “jailbirds” was Rachelle Millison of Millison Development in Lexington Park, Maryland. Her first commitment to working with MDA campers was as a high school camp volunteer. “It was an experience that I will never forget,” she wrote in her support request. “For many of the campers, it was a chance to forget about their differences and even their limitations, and instead to relish the joys of nature, have new adventures, and make new friends.  For many campers, it was their first time away from home and a chance to experience some degree of new found independence in a safe and fun-filled environment.   It was truly a life transforming week for both campers and counselors.”

More than 55 participants showed up at the California restaurant this week and raised $76,000.  All  money raised at the Lock-Up will be used locally to send kids 6-17 yrs old who have Muscular Dystrophy or related diseases to summer camp at Camp Maria in Leonardtown.

Funds will also be used for medical research, health clinics, support groups and medical equipment.
