Knowledge Boxing Center will hold a live amateur boxing event Saturday, October 5, in Calvert County. Boxing legend and US Army veteran “Merciless” Ray Mercer will be the special guest.

Mercer started boxing in his early 20s after he joined the Army, and in 1988 he won the Olympic Gold Medal for the US. By 1991, he was the WBO Heavyweight Champion of the World. Over his career, he fought the likes of Larry Holmes, Evander Holyfield, Wladimir Klitschko, and Lennox Lewis.

He will be in Southern Maryland at Southern MD Smoke 12 on October 5.

“We love being the stewards of boxing in Southern Maryland, and it is our absolute pleasure to bring a legend of the sport in Mr. Ray Mercer to the area,” said Daryl Hinmon, head coach at Knowledge Boxing Center. “It’s a win-win-win for everyone. It’s a great opportunity to thank Mr. Mercer for all his years of entertaining us in the ring. It’s great for the young boxers because Mr. Mercer freely shares his years of big-time boxing experience with them. And it’s a win for the fans who get to come shake the hand of a living legend.”

The show is sanctioned by the South Atlantic Local Boxing Commission of USA Boxing and will be held at 2400 Solomons Island Road South in Prince Frederick.

Southern MD Smoke 12 will feature Knowledge Boxing Center boxers and a host of amateur boxers from Washington, DC, Baltimore, and Virginia who will put their hard-earned skills on display.

The show will present 14+ hotly contested, three-round bouts under amateur Olympic-style boxing rules. Also, Knowledge Boxing’s professional boxer Tremaine “Teddy P” Fuller will be in attendance as he prepares for his fourth professional contest November 2 at the Entertainment & Sports Arena in DC.

VIP tables are $60 per seat, reserved ringside tickets are $45 and general admission tickets are $30 in advance. There will be good food and non-alcoholic drinks available for purchase, as well as Knowledge Boxing shirts, hats, and hoodies. Tickets are available on the gym’s website www.knowledgeboxingcenter.com. Doors open at 2pm and the action will kick off at 3pm.
