It’s Time to Quit Smoking

Health Department

Get ready to quit smoking and celebrate the freedom of living without tobacco by taking part in the Great American Smokeout on Nov. 19, 2015. The Tobacco Free Living Action Team, supported by MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital and the Healthy St. Mary’s Partnership, can help!

Check out the Healthy St. Mary’s Partnership website to get the details on where you can sign a pledge to quit and pick up a free Quit-Kit on Nov. 19.

This event comes every year on the third Thursday of November, bringing smokers across the nation together with the American Cancer Society. Everyone is challenged to stop using tobacco for this one day, in the hopes that they might quit smoking for good.

Today in America, close to 42 million citizens still smoke cigarettes; using tobacco is the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the U.S. In St. Mary’s County, 25 percent of adults and 19 percent of young people use tobacco products. Quitting — even if it’s just for a day — has immediate and long term benefits for smokers and people who love them.

Sign a pledge to quit and pick up a free Quit-Kit to help at the following locations on November 19, 2015:
